WELCOME TO IWPCTM18!

The Eighteenth International Workshop on the Physics of Compressible Turbulent Mixing will held 14th-19th July 2024 at Clifton, Bristol, United Kingdom.

This is the latest in the IWPCTM series of workshops focussing on fundamental aspects of turbulent mixing in flows subject to destabilising acceleration in both compressible and incompressible fluids.

Specific topics include (but are not limited to):

• Rayleigh-Taylor instability
• Richtmyer-Meshkov instability
• Mixing layers
• Experimental, numerical and theoretical studies
• Numerical and experimental techniques
• Direct numerical simulation, large-eddy simulation and engineering turbulence models
• Applications

Physica D special issue

With the permission of the authors, accepted abstracts will be published on the IWPCTM18 site. Furthermore, papers are invited for a special issue of the journal Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena. The submission portal is open now and will remain so until 31st January 2025. To direct your manuscript to the special issue, use the dropdown 'Select Article Type' and select 'VSI: Compressible Turbulent Mixing'.

Locale

The workshop includes both oral and poster presentations, along with round table and panel discussion sessions, taking place at the main venue, Merchants' Hall in Clifton.

The closest hotel to the venue is The Avon Gorge Hotel, with a welcoming interior and spectacular views over the Avon Gorge. The local area, Clifton, has several hotels priced for a range of budgets. There are several high quality local restaurants, and transport links between Bristol's main station, Temple Meads, and the main venue are excellent.
